History of the Swiss Club Facilities
Green PointOpening of the new Swiss & Austrian Social Club House on 11 June 2010 The new club house opened on 11 June 2010, the same day the soccer world cup started. Update 28 May 2010 Dear Members
Update 12 March 2010 The construction work in and around the existing building to convert it into our new club house has started some time ago, please see pictures below.
Update 2 October 2009 Building sub-committee has been meeting regularly with City council. Plans were discussed and our requirements presented. Final drawings will be received within 3wks, which will then go to a public tender. Renovations to be completed by end March 2010. Stadium operator Stade de France will contact MH to discuss the opening between club and urban park. Update 20 February 2009 Our belongings have been stored, awaiting our new facility, and the old club house is partially demolished. Update 13 January 2009 This is the latest update from the City Council Project Manager
Update 3 December 2008 We have just received good news from the City Council that they have approved our request for a new caretaker’s home at the new premises. John will be able to move to an apartment which will be close to our new building. Update 1 November 2008 The last function in the old Club House will be the Uustrinkete on 8 November, starting 14:00. So please join us for a party in celebration of the good times we had and look forward to the new Club House. Aftre that the Club House will have to make way to the new urban planning of the Greenpoint soccer stadiu Update 12 October 2008 Last week we had a meeting with the City of Cape Town. We are currently negotiating the details of the new club building. It seems that we might be able to move into the new premises towards the end of the year! Once the lease has been negotiated, the City will have to advertise our new premises in the Government Gazette and can start the renovations within 30 days of no objections. Please support the current club, we might still be open until about mid November! Update 15 July 2008 During July we have received the written notification from the City of Cape Town to vacate our clubhouse by end of September. Work on the Common will start on 1 October. Update during 85th AGM, 18 March 2008
During the 85th AGM a PowerPoint presentation about the current status of the project was given by a representative of the City council. According to this, the Site Development Plan has now been reworked into Plan C which is a compromise between Plan A and Plan B. A new possibility is now for the Swiss Club to move into a building next to the Sea Point police station, behind the Shell garage at Three Anchor Bay. The committee will meet with the council to assess the situation. Update from Dave Hugo, City of Cape Town, 21 January 2008
As you may be aware the Minister has rejected the submitted site development plan requesting that we, inter ali, investigate the consolidation of sporting codes, the reduction of the golf course par rating, the relocation of the athletics track and the reconfiguration of the proposed tennis precinct. We are currently working on modifications of the site development plan and will certainly be in a position to advise your members of revisions by the 18th of March. Meeting with City council, 17 May 2007 The city council offers new premises that will be built between the Western Blvd and Main Road, close to the robot at Three Anchor Bay. The Swiss Club will share the premises with the Lions club, and probably others. An advantage is that construction of the new premises could basically start anytime and it is well away from the busy main construction site of the soccer stadium. Financials or a time frame were not discussed during the meeting. The committee members present at the meeting accepted this new proposal by the city council. One condition of the agreement should be a safe pedestrian crossing across Western Blvd to the rest of the Green Point commons area, where also the tennis club will be located. Ample parking will be made available. The old club house This is how it looked, our good old club house in Green Point, before it had to make way for the development around the new soccer stadium for the 2010 World Cup.
JonkershoekSome upgrades were recently done to the facilities at Jonkershoek (near Stellenbosch), thank you very much to all the helpers.
